The Department is now engaged in working on a water policy initiative with a number of business, government and academic partners.  This effort aims to develop a more coherent set of policies and programs that will lead to improved water quality and the protection of the Great Lakes with a particular focus on Milwaukee and the metropolitan area of Southeastern Wisconsin.

The initiative is designed to address some of the more immediate and pressing problems such as beach closings and fish consumption advisories and over the long term ensure that the considerable value of the region’s water resources will be sustained for current and future generations.
